Nature & Architecture

Life Cycle, 2013. For this project I would explore the life cycle through the time lapse of plants blooming and decaying. My photographic work usually involves close ups of aspects of nature and plant life. I am also studying movies, so bringing an element of time into photography intrigues me. My interest in visually expressing life and death emanates from my grandmother’s passing. My grandmother loved flowers and spending time in her garden. I took pictures of the same flowers in the same location at the same time every day for a month. Ultimately, I presented the flowers as a series and created a zoetrope to present the decay of a leaf over a month.  Once I printed the irises, I noticed that as the flower decays over time, bugs begin to amass and grow on the flowers. I wish I had continued to photograph the bug’s consumption of the plant to further explore the idea of change over time.
